Intersession checkin in case anyone wants to check in

Hi!  The world continues very, very strange, but humans are adaptable, and I'm slowly finding some sort of balance.  And NOT thinking about next semester and what might happen then!

I thought I'd make a space here in case, as the title says, anyone wants to check in - say hi, set a goal, share news, whatever you might need.  Stay safe everyone!  Be kind - and start that kindness with self-kindness.

Cheers
Jane

    1. Hi Daisy,

I definitely miss Virtual people! In some ways this is NORMAL, in a way very little else is at the moment, because I always interact with you on line....

Waves back, and hoping you are getting some things done and being kind to yourself as well as your household!

  2. Hi Everyone, Sorry I went MIA so early in the session. Social anxiety, which has been ongoing since my Mom's death, just sort of took over and I stopped being able to work much on my book. Then, lucky me, I ended up getting the virus early on. I had a mild case but it still took me four weeks to not have a fever and six weeks to more fully recover. I am still not 100% back up to speed yet. But I am happy to be here. I am also super happy that classes are over. My summer fieldwork is cancelled so I will be home this summer trying to finish my book. I look forward to doing the next session with everyone and hope you are all staying safe and sane.

    1. Oh my goodness, you've had it? you poor thing, what a terrible few months you've had. In some ways, since my anxiety tends towards catastrophising, it was made 'satisfied' by the world being a scary mess - like the Bugges were all smugly saying "see I was right" and not being too hostile. They're ramping up again now our delightful government are woffling about opening up again...

We finished teaching today, and although I have at least three more weeks of student interactions through the assessment period, then the EXTENDED assessment period and the exam boards and Whatever Comes Next, it is a relief to at least be through with classes. I hope you can really find some healing time this summer, and build a productive and comforting routine.

    4. Wow, if it takes 10 weeks to recover, that's really awful. I hope someday we figure out why some people get so sick and others are asymptomatic. It's good to hear from you and I hope things keep getting better for you.

  3. Just a quick hello from me. I absolutely miss all of you, my virtual friends!

Oddly enough, I have had a second (third, or fourth) wind with Illuminated. I found a treasure trove of earlier writing that I had completely forgotten about, that gives me not only a full outline but several pages of work that I needn't reinvent.

I thought my class was done, but the professor has decided to give us suggestions for a final draft due Tuesday, but has not yet seen her way clear to do so. Sigh. I dove into Illuminated in order to control something.

It is warm and sunny here today, so I got out to dig in the garden, as well.

Take care, everyone, and float like mist.

  4. Still living with uncertainty. In the "Reflections" post, I reported on making an offer, then declining to negotiate further when it came out that the house had had mold in the attic. We've just made an offer on another house, one that is in great shape (so far as we can tell), but in a more rural-seeming neighborhood than we'd like. It's not truly rural, but it is the land of sparse sidewalks and huge lawns. So this may be an adventure in a different kind of life than I have ever known! I still have lots of grading to do, and administrivia to wind up for the semester, before the summer truly begins.
