Inter-session (Change of Season)

We're now in the change between seasons and between sessions, as summer (or winter) ends and as the teaching year comes ever closer. Change is the only constant, it seems.

At the moment we have offers to host from me, Susan and Dame Eleanor - how does a triumvirate sound? Beginning the next session at the start of September, and going for fourteen weeks would take us through to mid-December.

For now, I'll leave this post open if anyone wants to check in to say hello, set some short term goals, or vent.

  1. Hi all, that sounds good!

I'll TRY and take part - blogging etc from my uni issued laptop is something I try to avoid, but since in theory we're all back in person I might not be having it the one out at home (because of my various joint pains & creaks, I have an improvised docking station sort of set up where I can only have one laptop in use at a time and it's a bit of a faff to change over) and even if it IS out in the week, I switch to my own to play D&D over the weekend (although as we do that over Skype I don't know how they'd know, it just feels more "weekendish")...

  2. Hi!
Would love to join in. Putting in a plug for doing a 16-week session, somehow 14 feels very very short... Maybe I'm just getting old...
Sending good vibes and encouragement to everyone starting classes around now!

    1. This brings to mind something that nearly made my head explode over the weekend. We have a 16-week semester. Last year, our new university president encouraged half-semester courses. And that was fine. But when I started to map out the calendar for a new course prep, it's only six weeks. And too late for me to try to sort this out. Six weeks it is. So I would like to have two more weeks for TLQ too, since the semester was shaved by 25%.

    2. Oh, man . . . high-up admins and their cluelessness.

    3. I'd like a 16-week session, too. Humming, I agree with Dame Eleanor about high-up admins....

    4. That's IMPRESSIVELY WEIRD even for a high level admin...

16 weeks is good for me too

  3. Karen, I'm sorry I missed your offer to host in the last set of comments! I read too fast. Susan said she "might be able to co-host," and I wonder if that means she could but would rather not. We've never had a triumvirate before, and I think *I* would be likely to forget which week was mine, if I were only "on" every third week. I considered withdrawing my candidacy, but I'd rather co-host this fall, when my classes are familiar, than in the spring, when I'll be teaching things I haven't done in awhile.

So, apart from the suggestions about length (if we started next weekend, does 16 weeks take us to the week before Xmas?), what do you think? Me & Karen? Triumvirate? Other combination?
