Intersession check-in and hello and general support

Wow... I did not expect how much I would miss this space during the break! So, here is a check-in space for everyone... For triumphs, for disasters, for general anxiety, and for literally anything you need. We're still here, not going anywhere, and if my solitary experience is an indication, we are going to need this type of space more than we expected this coming term.

So, say hello, come for a curse/whinge/primal-scream, come share a celebration or an unexpected good thing, anything you need!

  2. I agree, Daisy. I've been coming here, looking for a post, and have even thought about posting one. I'm a week and a half into the semester and it is nuts!!!

However, I will share a very small victory. I have to take a web design class, and have been worried about it. But I found that I understand HTML very easily, from my decades-old training in how to program the early word processing programs. It's a small win, but given the insanity of this term so far, I'll take it!

    Float like mist, everyone.

  3. Our all-online classes start in exactly a week... And for the primal scream of the day, due to an enormous insane admin clusterfuck, we still do not know who is teaching the majority of courses in my area. I got my course assignments this week... So I'm panicking, and I am so unbelievably disgusted with my administration who have delayed hiring our contingent people that I cannot open my computer without crying at this point. Our instructors have been treated abominably and I cannot do anything about it, my whole department has been fighting for this for months and we've gotten nowhere. We've had waiting lists for these particular courses since early June, all it would have taken to get the instructors (who did a fabulous job with these courses last year and have been sitting around unemployed since June!) hired and prepared was a little decency, but no, that was too hard.

Small win? Does getting up in the morning count? Right now I think it does. Also volunteer work for really important society EDI thing is going well, so I'm taking that!

    Hang in there everyone!!!

    1. That's so distressing, Daisy! Our contingents often don't get contracts until October, which is terrible, but at least they get their courses much earlier. That's not to say they are treated well, and we've been fighting for years to improve their lot, as you have. I think the reliance on and utter disregard of contingents is going to bite universities in the behind very soon, but many university administrators refuse to change the way they treat contingent faculty.

Hang in there, go scream in the woods, vent here, whatever helps. Good on you for the volunteer work, which is so very important these days.

And absolutely yes, getting up in the morning is a win. Some days, brushing my hair is a win! Take care of yourself.
