Next session: date preferences and any volunteers to host?

With the prospect of a chocolate-filled end to the current session of the TLQ group next week, I guess we should look ahead to planning for the next session.

Do any group members have preferences about when to start and how long to run? Previous sessions have been between 12 and 16 weeks depending on seasonal and institutional markers.

And does anyone want to volunteer to host? Co-hosting seems to be a model we are quite comfortable with the moment as a way of sharing the load and different perspectives.

  1. I would be up for co-hosting. A session that would make sense for me would run from around the 3rd or 4th weekend of May to about mid-August. But I'm certainly flexible. I might be traveling right towards the end of that time, but for most of it, I should able to manage hosting duties.

  2. I'm away between about the 6th and 20th of May, then back, and would also be happy to co-host.

The UK academic year is out of kilter with the US as usual - we don't really end for "summer" until early July, although things are winding down properly from early June, and technically don't start back until the last week of September (although the new regime is encroaching into more and more of September here).

But that shape would still suit me - a late May/June/July/August writing "season" makes practical sense, and I'll definitely be here in August so could cover for GEW (my off-line travel is likely to be in June/July and September this year).

  3. So it sounds like a late May-August session could work, with GEW and JaneB as co-hosts (and you both have access already, and plenty of experience!)

I'm off-kilter in both season and semester length - my busy marking period will be late May/early June, to be done by the fire if possible. But it looks like I've negotiated a lower teaching load for the seond half of the year, and can pinch-hit for August if needed.

  4. Mid-late May as a starting point sounds good to me. . . Thank you GEW and JaneB.

  5. I'd love a late May - August season as well. Fits nicely in with a few things.

  6. late May-August works for me, too. I might be on vacation toward the beginning of the session, but will probably not be entirely internet-free thanks to church responsibilities. So I'll at least check in with goals in May (not that I've been exactly regular this session, but good intentions spring eternal).
