2026 Session Three, Week Nine

Time for a cheering interlude with our new friends from week 4! Where do you go, what do you do, consume, buy, and/or talk about? Are they a help with getting some perspective on the house problem that cropped up last week? Can they recommend a contractor, de-clutterer, or buyer of collectibles?

Also let us know how you did last week, with or without goals!

  1. Apologies for getting this up late again! It was a week with two vet visits for one cat--Reina somehow got food poisoning--and that meant long drives every day (3 days to campus, 2 days to where we used to live), plus a lot of anxiety about a cat who was vomiting & refusing food, and since she is semi-feral (despite living with us since she was a 2-pound kitten), it's impossible to medicate her if she won't eat. But now she seems to have turned a corner, which is a relief, but also I'm looking at my lists and going oooooohhh nooooooooo how is it November???

    How I did:
    - Book December flights: NO
    - process 2 short grad assignments & 3 late or resubmitted papers: YES 2 shorts, NO 3 papers
    - comment on undergrad revised proposals: NO
    - complete rough & messy drafts of both M & S essays: NO, not even one!
    - do last annual training: YES
    - get car registration sticker: YES
    - prep for & deliver talk about the b00k lab: YES
    - gym at least x3 (pool was closed this morning, not sure when repairs will be completed . . .): x2, short walks on a couple of other days.
    - put up spider-web decoration before Saturday: ON Saturday! We had 3 sets of 2 trick-or-treaters and one group of at least a dozen children (a whole party?), and that was it. Better than some years, not as many as the best year we've had here. I'll take leftover candy to classes next week.
ALSO: well, the afore-mentioned vet trips, and lots of cleaning related to the cat issues (but 2 books had to be thrown away); got a haircut I actually paid for (instead of cutting my own hair--I've gone short enough that I can't really manage to do a decent job myself); read a grad application; took the whole weekend off b/c I was just so done after last week. I wrote just over 1000 words, all on M, since I discovered I have some leeway on S.

    New goals:
    - Book December flights
    - process 1 short grad assignment & 3 late or resubmitted papers
    - start drafting final exam for one class
    - comment on undergrad revised proposals
    - complete draft of M (and/or grovel to editors)
    - put car registration sticker on car
    - go to colleague's talk
    - pay bills, do some other financial things
    - gym at least x3
    - take down spider-web decoration
    - vote
    - do something for fun/self-care, outdoors if weather permits
