Summer Session Week 13

What struck me last week was that we were mostly OK with where we were:  "some good things happened" or, as Humming42 said, "I'm content".  But in a month or two, all of us will be teaching, and there will be lots of pressure from the additional work that takes place in online teaching.   What do you plan to do to hold on to the idea of "some good things", or "enough" as we leave summer for the busier pace of the semester?

I hope that Daisy's camping trip goes well, and that Oceangirl101 is recovering from her surgery and off the steroids...

Goals from last week:

Daisy
1) Finish and submit three abstracts/registrations
2) Finish and submit invited keynote abstract
3) Finish off major committee draft documents and circulate

Summer Session Week 12

Hello everyone!
We have 4 sessions left before our 16th week, our last one for the summer. So looking at it one way, there’s still 25% of the session to go, which sounds good. I’m trying hard to focus on the “25% left” vs. the “75% gone” part because every time I think of that version I want to hide under my bed or run away, or ideally, run away and hide under a far-away bed… But we can’t run away, at least not very far, so that brings up the question of the week…

What are we going to focus on to make the absolute most of the 25% of the session (aka summer) that is left? What will be the thing that makes us say “that was a success” when we look back at the session in a month or so? What are the things we can drop right now to make the next few weeks go more smoothly, and what are the critical things we need to hang on to in order to make it to the end of the session with a smile? (If those questions are anxiety-inducing, feel free to pass on any tips for how you would deal with that anxiety, or tell us about your favourite place to hide when it all becomes too much!)
Here are all our excellent goals from last week:

1) Finish off major committee draft documents and circulate

Summer 2020 Week 11

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but last week's post reminded me of the delightful feeling after a delicious and maybe boozy but definitely abundant summer lunch with good company, when I am lazily lying around maybe napping, maybe talking, but just so relaxed.   (In the movie version, there are beautiful people lying in the grass, and there are no bugs or grass stains on the flowy white dresses the women are wearing, but in my version, we're really comfortable, and there are lawn chairs.)  So now that we're relaxed, what are we going to do with our relaxation time?  Have you been able to relax? I know Heu Mihi is at the beach (cue massive jealousy on my part!). We can't travel as we might wish, but what can we do?

Summer Session Week 10

Hello everyone!
I hope you had some peace and quiet and fun with all the gifts Susan collected last week! I loved all the contributions. This week we’re going to take it one step further…

We’re having a garden party potluck this week for TLQers, past and present! We have a large garden with plenty of seating (I have something like DEH’s new one in mind!) so we can all have appropriate space… We have a patio with shade and a very sunny one too for the lizards among us…  It is mid-summer, so warm with a nice breeze, and because this universe is the magical one, there are no mozzies or blackflies or whatever blood-sucking insect your area specializes in! And hammocks... We have hammocks... So, all we need is food and drink and party games. Bring your favourite summer drink (ideally a home-made concoction, extra points for edible flowers or something odd in it!) or food of any kind or lawn/pool games and share!

Summer Session. Week 9

I was impressed last week that most of us were doing pretty well on our session goals.  As always, there are minor modifications, but we're generally more or less where we want to be. Daisy talked last week about the "short looks into the future" approach to our current life.  It's definitely the best - whenever I think about the possibility of still being in lockdown or modified lockdown a year from  now I despair.   But I found so many gifts in your contributions, from Heu Mihi's garden to JaneB's BollOx.  So what gift do you want to share with the rest of us this week?

Goals from last week
Daisy
1) Complete rescheduled talk and practice it with virtual people since it will be virtual delivery
