Happy New Year...

Happy New Year everyone!

First, feel free to use this post to share the good and the bad of your holidays, and to talk about the process of setting goals for the new year, semester, month or whatever period is relevant to your calendar.

Second, any volunteers to look after this space for the next session, and suggestions on how long that session should be and when it should start?

  1. I'd be willing to run the next session, or to share it with someone. How about running from mid-January to mid-April?

The winter break has been pleasant for me. No disasters on my visit to my family; no new uproar in my husband's family; currently on a sub-tropical island with an old friend, trying to plan a class for the "spring" term. I'm not exactly looking forward to the return to winter in a few days, although the humidity here is making me a bit cranky. (Some people are never satisfied . . . )

  2. And I meant to say, thank you JaneB for putting up this post!

  3. I'd be happy to share the next session.

I also visited a sub-tropical island and appreciated the way the light is there. Visited family too, and it felt important to spend that time. I am hopefully refreshed.

  4. Hello! My break was just fine--too many colds (mostly my own), but no one had the flu or pneumonia or anything, family was friendly, gifts were lovely and not overboard. Two weeks until my classes start again, and I really need to get myself back in gear--especially for research and writing, since I need to approach that with more resolve this semester.

Looking forward to the next session!

  5. In the absence of further input, I will take it that Linda and I will share the hosting of the January-April 2020 session. I propose that we run for 14 weeks, from this weekend, 11-12 January, to 18-19 April. Suggestions and alterations welcome, but we'll take silence as consent! I'll put up an introductory post (introduce yourself and session goals) tomorrow, unless I hear objections. Looking forward to our interactions!

  6. That plan sounds great. Apologies for being so late to the table!
My trip to see our eldest daughter was a lovely break, and I have returned to work with no angst or trepidation for the first time in a long while. The only downside was returning to sleet and freezing rain. Brrrr.

I met with my advisor today, who had some wonderful suggestions for converting my medieval studies dissertation into a rare books one. I am happily planning my next steps.

Here's to a wonderful spring session.
